The Maritime Studies Master's Programme with Thesis was opened in the 2018-2019 academic year at the Institute of Social Sciences and started education in the 2019-2020 Fall semester. The programme, which was established with the principle of raising qualified graduates who can look at maritime studies from a broad perspective, education will continue with an interdisciplinary approach. The main purpose of the Thesis Master's programme in maritime studies is to provide a professional career development path for those who want to work in maritime transport and logistics, human resources in maritime and safety in maritime. The programme is unique with its sub-topics. In this sense, it distinguishes itself from other maritime-related postgraduate programmes within our university and is a first in our country.


The programme  is suitable for four-year university graduates regardless of their departments, especially those who direct their career in the field of maritime and want to specialize in the field of maritime. Marine Studies Master's Program with Thesis

The aim of the Master's Programme in Maritime Studies is to develop analytical thinking skills based on a critical perspective with an interdisciplinary education. The programme provides individuals interested in maritime specialization and in-depth research in one of three topics (Maritime Transport and Logistics, Maritime Human Resources, Maritime Safety). It is aimed that students evaluate the information they have obtained in their undergraduate education with language, concepts and methods specific to maritime.

Programme Outcomes

1. To develop and deepen their knowledge in maritime at expert level, based on undergraduate level qualifications.

2. To comprehend the interdisciplinary interaction related to the field.

3. To use the expert level theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in the field.

4. To interpret the knowledge gained in the field by integrating the information from different disciplines and to create new knowledge.

5. To solve the problems encountered in the field by using research methods.

6. To independently conduct a study that requires expertise in his field.

7. To develop new strategic approaches to solve unforeseen and complex problems encountered in the field of practice and to produce solutions by taking responsibility.

8. To lead in environments that require resolution of problems related to the field.

9. To critically evaluate the knowledge and skills acquired at the level of expertise in the field and to direct his learning.

10. To systematically transfer the current developments and own studies in the field to groups in and out of the field, in written, oral and visual form, by supporting them with quantitative and qualitative data.

11. To critically examine and develop social relations and the norms that guide these relationships, and to act to change them when necessary.

12. To use information and communication technologies at an advanced level with computer software required by the field.

13. To control and teach social, scientific, cultural and ethical values ​​in the stages of collecting, interpreting, applying and announcing the data related to the field.

14. To develop strategy, policy and implementation plans in the fields related to the field and to evaluate the results within the framework of quality processes.

15. To use the knowledge, problem solving and / or application skills that they have absorbed in the field in interdisciplinary studies.

16. To convey his / her own studies in international platforms in his field, in written, oral and / or visual form.
